Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?

A film distributer detmines the marketing stragety for the film, the media that the film is going to viewed on and an idea of what the release date will likely be. They also estimate the average revenue and gather an understanding of the target audience that they will be working with. Different advertising campaigns will take place based on the media products target audience. For example, a modern film and extremely popular film such as The Avengers, has a demographics of mainly male, with around 25% being female, and the main target audience's age being between 18-29 followed up by their second highest demographic age of 30-44. Baring this in mind, advertising via social media, could potenially be a way of getting the attention of the franchises main target audience, and also using television advertisements for the films slightly older audiences, but still a very large chunk of the audience none the less. Film disrupters research what their target audience are into and where they're most likely to see and hear about their new film that they will likely be interested in. Linking to the research side of things, the importance of the research is crucial, like I said. For example, a prime example of this is The Woman In Black, as Daniel Radcliffe, the star of Harry Potter was taking up the lead role in the film, the film distributers did their research to figure out that most of Daniel Radcliffes fans are extremely young, therefore they took this into account, and the final release of The Woman In Black was only rated a 12A and in some places a 12, allowing all of Daniel Radcliffes younger fans to see the movie. Social media is seamingly becoming a very popular place for an advertsiing campaign. For example, a recent advertising campaign that I found very effect was that for Kevin Hart and Ice Cube's sequel movie, Ride Along 2. They both took to social media, hosting question and answer sessions live on the internet and interacting with fans, creating a very strong relationship with them before the release of the movie, so when it does finally get released, the audience and fans of those starring in it, feel the urge to go and see the movie.
